What Does STEMWAVE Do?
STEMWAVE is designed to deliver focused mechanical energy to selected treatment areas. The technology is intended to support the body’s natural response to mechanical stimulation and may be used for areas involving minor muscle and joint discomfort. The manufacturer describes applications involving areas such as the knee, shoulder, back, ankle, foot, hand, hip, elbow, and neck.
The device is registered with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration as a Class I therapeutic massager intended for the temporary relief of minor muscle and joint aches and pains. FDA registration should not be interpreted as FDA approval, clearance, or endorsement.
How Is STEMWAVE Used?
A trained provider first evaluates the treatment area and determines whether STEMWAVE is appropriate. A small amount of coupling gel is applied to the skin, and the handheld applicator is positioned over the selected area. The device then delivers controlled focused acoustic waves according to the provider’s treatment protocol.
Treatment sessions are typically short. StemWave’s current patient information describes sessions of approximately 5 minutes, while its provider information describes approximately 5–8 minutes per treatment area, depending on the treatment approach.
